Eating in Bali

Since we have to give up fine home cooking, I thought I'd show you what we've been eating so far.

Also, I don't know who else I could bother with my food photos, so you have to endure 😉

First of all, I have to say that our food has been consistently sensational! Since we mostly visit warungs, small local restaurants, we also interact with local service staff. And since time works a little differently here, it usually takes a little eternity from ordering to food delivery (as I already complained about in the last blog!). To be fair, it must be said that the dishes are always freshly prepared 🐟 🍚 🍛 It's hard to be mad at people when they smile so warmly and then forget half of the bill 😅.

For my part, I ate 80% Nasi Goreng while Gianna enjoyed the Asian-Italian pizza skills more or less successfully 🍕.

In Bali, there are affordable local warungs on every corner, but also many vegan cafes and healthy eating temples. We mostly avoid these Western places since I prefer to eat local and not have burgers and fries every day. Also, I don't feel like paying 6 francs for a smoothie... doesn't sound like much, but for that price, we can have lunch with a drink 😉

So far, we have managed to stick to our food budget of 15 francs per day per person. If you now think that we are Swiss penny pinchers, you may be right, but when we are traveling for six months, we can't afford to have caviar every day!

Unfortunately, there are occasions when my beer consumption is criticized by the budget department (Gianna) 🍺☹️ The small beer costs almost as much as a main course (Nasi Goreng usually 2.30)!

In Indonesia, rice is grown everywhere and of course, eaten 🍚. A lot of chicken/poulet is consumed in various forms. I have already had fried thighs and satay skewers (sate skewers) with peanut sauce, among other things. Generally, a lot of meat and BBQ are offered, especially duck and beef.

One thing we haven't seen much of is fish and seafood. It actually surprises me since we are right by the sea.

From poké bowls to spaghetti to sushi, you can find everything on Bali. We even found Emmi yogurt! 🇨🇭

But yes, photos speak louder than my rambling 👻.
