Ljubljana - A Tale of Dragons, Caves, and Protests

Pubblicato: 30.07.2020

English version below.

Here is our report on Ljubljana, a bit late ;)

What did we do in Ljubljana? We ate. That pretty much sums it up. There are so many delicious things to eat on every corner, even vegans had a hard time choosing. (For example, pizza that isn't real pizza but even better.)

The city quickly captivated us with its unassuming and relaxed appearance. The fact that there are dragons everywhere is certainly a significant factor, especially for Mary. Stefan, on the other hand, had many opportunities to test his camera.

We saw a lively "baby dragon," as the locals used to call the famous olms, in the Postojna Cave. Its gigantic caves and rock formations left a lasting impression.

What else happened? We visited the German embassy and inquired whether we could vote in the NRW local elections while abroad (we couldn't). We spontaneously joined a demonstration for freedom and democracy, and Mary received a Berliner donut from a friendly baker. Yeah! :)

In the next few days, we will also share our report on our hike to Mirna.

Ljubljana: A tale of dragons, caves, and protest

What did we do in Ljubljana? We ate. This answers most of the questions already. God, the food here is delicious. There’s something great on offer around every corner. Even for vegans, there is a lot to choose from. (For example, pizza, which is not like pizza but better! Sounds impossible, right?)

The city quickly charmed us with its unprecedented retro look. It helps, of course, that there are dragons everywhere. Stefan had multiple opportunities to test out his camera, which you can see in the pictures above.

A real-life dragon could be spotted in the Postojna cave, as the locals used to call the cave-olms baby-dragons when they were washed out of the cave after heavy rain. The cave is really impressive!

What else happened? We went to the German embassy to ask whether we could vote in Slovenia for the upcoming local elections (we couldn’t). We took part in a protest for freedom and democracy, and Mary was given a free donut by a friendly baker (nougat-filling). Yummie.

The entry about our hike to Mirna will be online in a few days, probably. Stay tuned!
