By coincidence, I decided at the beginning of July 2026 to visit the million city of Surabaya. Its colonial history and role in the Indonesian liberation war fascinate.

This time it's mostly about food: Our daily meals, a luxury dinner at the Spanish restaurant, an organic farm just around the corner, and leaf-eating monkeys behind the house....
