Fox River Freedom Camping Site, West Coast

After waking up, we meet up with the two German guys to visit the Pancake Rocks. But first, Arnd takes them (their names are Lukas and Lucas) on a short hike that takes them to the beach in half an hour. Meanwhile, Nicola and Eileen try the pancakes from the infamous pancake man, who has a small stand at the campsite. Apart from the delicious homemade pancakes, we particularly enjoyed the long and very nice conversation with the local. Shortly after, we all meet up at the Pancake Rocks and explore them. The Pancake Rocks are a rock formation that looks like numerous stacks of pancakes. Afterwards, on the recommendation of the pancake man, we drive further north to Karamea to see the Oparara Arches, which were also a filming location for the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the evening, we drive back to the camping site at Fox River and agree that the trip to Karamea was unfortunately not worth the 7-hour drive in total.
