Both Samarkand and Bukhara once belonged to Tajikistan, and many Tajiks are both proud and wrinkled because both cities now belong to Uzbekistan. Technically, Tajikistan belonged to the Emirate of Bukhara before Soviet incorporation, so exactly the other way around, but that is gladly ignored by the Tajik side ;)
I was only in Bukhara for an afternoon/evening and it was enough for me. Nice, but compared to Samarkand, it is too small and too touristy. The doors were also interesting here once again! And so were the ceiling floors, almost like in Görlitz :)
