Samarkand completely overwhelmed me. The city, located in the desert on the former Silk Road, is now a vibrant metropolis in Uzbekistan. What fascinated me the most is the abundance of old architecture. Everywhere, fairy-tale domes rise, adorned with deep blue and turquoise tiles, decorated with intricate patterns and pointed arches.
My personal highlight: the Shahi-Zinda complex. A collection of mausoleums, whose facades are so beautifully decorated that one hardly knows where to look first. The colors, the ornaments, the play of light and shadow – simply breathtaking!
Of course, Samarkand is also a very touristy place. In some spots, you almost feel as if you accidentally joined a package tour group, following a zealous tour guide with a flag. Rows of tour buses occupy the parking lots and you can buy souvenirs everywhere. If you want some peace and quiet, it helps to get up early. In the morning, as the city slowly awakens, you have the famous squares almost to yourself and can enjoy the magic of Samarkand in complete tranquility :)

Ok - ihr habt gewonnen! ... 1:0 ... ihr habt eindeutig mehr Mosaike und mehr Mosaiksteinchen fotografiert, als jede/r andere in diesem Sommer. Und ich war je schon stolz in Lisieux die Basilika der Hl Therese gesehen zu haben.
