Seals and Pelicans

Published: 01.02.2019

Day 12 in Namibia.

In the morning, we drove to the half an hour south of Walvis Bay. From the harbor, we took a boat tour to the famous seal colonies. The four of us, and a group of 19 French people.

Right at the beginning, seals jumped onto our boat (they must have some muscles!!!), and pelicans & seagulls accompanied us throughout the whole tour.

Up on deck, we enjoyed the beautiful ride with the fresh breeze.

Arriving at the seal colonies (with hundreds of seals), we saw a lively activity in the water, they jump and dive like dolphins, and many loungers are lying on the beach. Loud grunting, groaning, and a terrible stench. But nice to watch.

On board, Maxima was allowed to feed a seal with fish, which was very funny. And the pelicans wanted to pinch us.

It was an exciting and beautiful trip.

In the afternoon, we visited a couple in a suburb who helped us about 15 years ago after an accident. Back then, they had a farm in the southern part of the country. It was very warm and we sat in their beautiful garden and chatted. Maxima found the 5 dogs fascinating and cute, she petted them extensively and let them lick her, which she found very funny. She didn't want to leave.

Lio found the big dogs too scary, but he finally was able to play with Dino (the grandchildren).

On the way back, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset by the sea.
