In Akranes, we waited in hopeful anticipation of good weather for the solar eclipse. We would have also gone somewhere else at short notice if there had been good weather there. The fact is that all Wednesday, not just in Akranes but all across Iceland, particularly in West Iceland, there was a thick, continuous layer of clouds. It simply got dark - that was it. Today, we woke up very early and went to Dalvik to take a day trip to Grimsey by ferry. It is Iceland's northernmost island, and the Arctic Circle passes through the island. We hiked most of it in about 3.5 hours and not only visited the Arctic Circle monument but also observed many puffins. We were back in Dalvik by 8:15 PM.
