Litchfield National Park: Wangi Falls, Tolmer Falls, Buley Rockhole, Florence Falls, Magnetic Termite Mounds

We spent the first of two nights in Batchelor. Batchelor, yes, that's how it's spelled, is right at the entrance to Litchfield National Park and is a small community. The only bar, the only restaurant, and the only kiosk in town is our lodge. In the evening, there are quite a few locals who come here to have a beer and play something similar to a number lottery. This type of community is typical here; the next restaurant is a half-hour drive away, and it’s all the same there. The food has been mediocre everywhere so far. Mainly, there are variations of pizza or hamburgers. Although various Australians have raved to us that they have at least as good bread as the Swiss, Germans, or French, we can't confirm that so far. Perhaps good bread is only available in the big cities, like Sydney, Melbourne, etc.

Today we explored the park. The places considered worth seeing are all very similar. A small gorge, a stream, and a few waterfalls. In the lower areas, you can't swim and bathe during the rainy season due to saltwater crocodiles. In the higher areas, people bathe here a lot. Locals also use these spots. Only the Magnetic Termite Mounds are something different. These are large fields with termite mounds resembling the monumental cemeteries in Milan, Paris, and so on.

Tomorrow we will drive back to Darwin, return our car, and the day after tomorrow morning we will board the Ghan to Adelaide. We will also have time to see a bit more of Darwin.
