Lakes Entrance

Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate again today. When we set off, it seemed like it would be somewhat nice. However, as the morning progressed, the clouds above us grew darker, and it started to pour again.

As a result, we shortened our route from Wilsons Promontory National Park to Lakes Entrance a bit. First, we made a brief stop in Yarram. The town has been adorned with various murals and wall paintings. The state of Victoria promotes this to make the small towns more attractive.

After that, we went to Tarra-Bulga National Park. This park differs from the others in many ways. It features a deeply cut gorge, mainly covered by giant ferns and the Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans). The Mountain Ash can grow up to 100 meters high, almost as tall as the Redwoods. Additionally, there are Lyrebirds that can mimic all sorts of sounds, like a cellphone ringing, car horns, chainsaws, and so on. We could actually hear them, but unfortunately, we couldn't see them. It was also too wet and cold for us to go hiking. Therefore, we just drove through the narrow road across the park, stopping occasionally to take in the scenery.

Afterwards, we took a break at a café on the way. During the drive, we saw large plumes of smoke in the distance. As we got closer, we saw it was a brown coal power station, with brown coal being mined right next to it. Like many things in Australia, this power station is apparently also in Chinese hands.

and drove to our hotel in Lakes Entrance. We had read very critical reviews about the hotel, but it turned out to be just fine. We have a very large room with a view, the interior is in excellent condition, and everything is very clean.
