Kingscote - Victor Harbor - Hahndorf

Today we left Kangaroo Island. First, however, we climbed to the highest point of Kangaroo Island, Prospect Hill. A staircase leads up there, similar to the Haiku Stairs on O'ahu, Hawaii. From there, you have a beautiful panoramic view of the island. After that, we continued to the sculpture park in Penneshaw. It is very beautifully designed, fits into the landscape, and has a variety of sculptures. You can tell that someone with a passion created this park. A highlight is also the kangaroos and wallabies that are around every corner.

We even managed to catch an earlier ferry. On the ferry, there was a huge truck with sheep on multiple levels. The sheep did not smell good, perhaps due to stress.

Back on the mainland, we first followed the tip and visited the town of 'Victor Harbor'. It has a horse/camel tram that still runs occasionally, as well as a steam locomotive. Australians are not particularly skilled at restoration, and these things are only kept roughly in shape, with broken parts replaced by something else.

Finally, we arrived in Hahndorf. Almost all Australians know it. It is a town founded by Germans that still strictly maintains its German identity today. We had thought the town would be like Kaysersberg in Alsace or Rothenburg ob der Tauber, but it is actually just an Australian village with signs that have some German words. Our dinner was very German, plentiful, and yet very good.
