Hahndorf - Halls Gap

The overnight stay in Hahndorf was quite special. When we wanted to check into our room, they told us that the hotel was actually closed, but they didn't want to cancel our booking. Apparently, someone new has taken over the hotel and they are renovating the building. The room we received was okay; it just felt strange to spend the night in a closed hotel. In the morning, we moved on to Halls Gap, our longest stage on this trip.

There wasn't much to see along the way. We stopped for the painted silos since we needed a break anyway. We skipped another possible stop at a park with roses because it's late autumn here.

As we approached Halls Gap, the scenery became more attractive. The town is located in Grampians National Park, and the Grampians are the rugged mountains here. They were named by Scottish immigrants after the mountains back home.

When we checked into our cottage, a wallaby was already waiting at the door. As we wanted to walk into town, a bird was determined to enter our cottage. Shortly after, cockatoos had taken up residence in front of our door, and when we returned, a duck was sitting in front of the little house. There are plenty of kangaroos and deer grazing here in town as well. We really like it here and are looking forward to tomorrow's hike.
