From now on, we are definitely heading back home.
The first leg of the long journey takes us back to Panama City.
On this flight, we have some interesting views. Still over Mexico, we see the somewhat peculiar-looking former volcanic craters – one drained, the other with a lake. We also pass by Citlaltépetl, standing at 5,636 m. This volcano is the highest mountain in Mexico and the tallest volcano in North America. Later, over Nicaragua, we catch another glimpse of Volcán Momotombo and Lago Xolotlán – we can only glimpse the city of Managua in the distance.
In Panama City, we use our short 1.5-day stay to see the cathedral from the inside, since during our first stop in Panama, there was a wedding taking place in the church. Two popes have visited here, John Paul II and Francis, who also declared it a cathedral.
Very interesting is the Bible diorama in a low room below the altar – a kind of extended Christmas nativity scene.
