Today was THE day. After thousands of kilometers, short nights, and mosquito attacks, the big goal was on the agenda: The North Cape (Nordkapp).
The day began with two good news:
The border crossing from Finland back to Norway went completely smoothly.
The mosquitoes are gone! The further we traveled towards the Arctic Ocean, the fresher the breeze became. The scourge from yesterday seems to dislike the Arctic air. Thankfully.
The landscape changed dramatically today. The dense forests gave way to a barren tundra. There are hardly any trees up here, but the view is infinitely wide. The air is indescribably clear and fresh – and the crazy part: The thermometer still showed over 20 degrees. Arctic with T-shirt weather!
Today it was a slalom on the roads. Not due to potholes, but because of the locals. Reindeer are everywhere here – and they have all the time in the world. They stand at the roadside, on the road, or leisurely trot in front of the car. A real Scandinavian cliché that is a reality here.
In Alta, we made a stop to recharge for the finale. I dared to try a local specialty: Reindeer meat. The verdict? Interesting! It tastes less 'wild' than venison, but stronger than pork. Notably, the meat is very fatty – probably because the animals need it up here for protection against the cold. It was definitely an experience.
We drove further to the peninsula Repvåg, where we checked into our hotel. Here we took a break, as the plan was to visit the North Cape at the most symbolic time: at midnight.
Later in the evening, we set off. Just driving through the North Cape Tunnel (almost 7 km long and deep beneath the sea) is an experience in itself. Before we drove to the famous globe, we made a detour to Hornvika Bay. This is a place for historians and the sporty. Before the road was built, cruise ships used to dock here, and tourists had to climb the steep rocks. We made the descent into the bay. It was exhausting, steep, and time-consuming, but absolutely worth it. While the buses were parked on the plateau above, the bay was deserted.
Then we made the final ascent to the North Cape plateau. Weather Lotto: When we left Repvåg, the sun was still shining. But the North Cape is a diva. The plateau itself was shrouded in clouds. However, due to the midnight sun pressing down on the cloud layer from above, the fog didn’t appear gray, but rather soft pink. A mystical, almost surreal atmosphere.
Right on time for 'midnight' (due to daylight saving time, it was actually 01:00) we stood by the globe.

The Costs: Parking up here now costs money. I didn't go into the famous North Cape Hall – the entrance fee is extremely high, and you can see the view from outside as well.
Around 03:00 a.m., we finally fell into bed at the hotel in Repvåg. Dead tired, but with the feeling: We did it. We stood at the end of the world.
Day Summary:
Culinary: Reindeer in Alta (fatty but delicious).
Nature: Barren, fresh, and full of reindeer.
Hidden Gem: The deserted Hornvika Bay.
North Cape: Pink clouds instead of clear views – but absolutely magical.
Status: Mission accomplished!
