The Levantehaus is undoubtedly a wonderful discovery for anyone entering it for the first time. This lovingly designed small shopping center is truly a gem in the heart of Hamburg's city center.

It was built and designed in 1912 by Franz Bach. At that time, it served as an office building – a pure commercial building without sales areas. Trading houses used it as an office location, ideally located between the main train station, the harbor, and the warehouse district.

The Levantehaus gained its current character as a stylish shopping center with a hotel and gastronomy only during a comprehensive renovation in the 1990s. The historic building was carefully restored while being enriched with contemporary art.

Especially impressive are the animal sculptures by British artist Barry Baldwin, installed in 1997, which are real eye-catchers: elephant heads at the entrance, a powerful centaur above the portal, and an artistic frieze featuring endangered species draw visitors' attention – depending on perspective – either up or down.

I also love the stylish and high-quality shops, where I usually find at least one little something. Culinary offerings are also worth a visit: The gastronomy is diverse and of high quality.

For me, it's clearly a (hidden) gem.
