Today starts again with a small Chinese breakfast - I will take a photo of it in the coming days. In China, it is customary to have warm meals in the morning, at noon, and in the evening. Soup, vegetables, noodles, both salty and sweet. Eggs are included in all variations.
After that, I will head to the park to practice and then to the museum to practice with the Shifu. For lunch, I have only fruit. We go to the fruit shop and get fruit that is cut right away. I get pineapple and mango - super delicious!
Lunch break spent reviewing my notes from the practice sessions. How great that we recorded videos.
After the afternoon practice sessions, I go out by myself. The others want to continue practicing Taiji for their performance.
I buy 2 items for myself and then want to eat. I head towards the river. It is no problem at all to walk alone through the bazaar streets as a woman. I'm not approached rudely. On the contrary, everyone is friendly or at least neutral.
I choose a small local eatery and try to select something with my translator app… it turns out to be a soup with noodles; well, we are in northern China. In the south, rice is eaten more. There is also meat in it. The chef asked whether it should be spicy, which I generously declined. So my hot soup came, at a temperature well over 30 degrees. And I bravely faced the challenge with the noodles. I only say: chopsticks. But I thought I managed quite okay. However, the chef seemed to take pity on me and brought me a small plastic fork.
To conclude, I had a photo taken with the chef wearing an advertising apron and me. The owner of the neighboring shop also joined in.
To wind down, I took a rest by the river. It is truly a beautiful place.
That night, I slept through for the first time for 7 hours and didn’t hear the thunderstorm at night.
