Today we visited several interesting and beautiful places near Ushuaia, here is 80-100 km, of course, in the vicinity.... It is getting colder, 12 degrees during the day and 4 degrees at night are normal in the Patagonian summer and tomorrow it should be even colder and possibly snow
Initially, our path took us, finally back over gravel, to Puerto Almanza, a small village. This is located on the Beagle Channel and almost opposite the Chilean port of Puerto Williams (our southernmost destination on our trip at the end of this week). At the restaurant 'Pingüinera' with a view of the channel, we had our lunch, 'Empanadas de Centolla mariscos', with crab and coalfish - delicious once again!
Our drive then continued along the Beagle Channel, magnificent landscapes, sometimes mystical, sometimes mysterious but always indescribably beautiful! Then suddenly around a bend, about 12-15 meters from the road - a huge mass of flesh - a whale! According to a villager, a narwhal that had stranded here two days ago. A sad sight....
Then we drove on to Estancia Harberton, which was founded in 1886 when the missionary pioneer Thomas Bridges resigned from the Anglican Mission in Ushuaia. The Estancia was named after Harberton, the house of his wife Mary Ann Varder in Devon, England.
Very interesting! Here some descendants of Thomas Bridges still live. A great tour through the museum 'Fin Del Munde' - much about the wildlife of the Atlantic and about the Estancia - interesting facts about the estate, the former sheep farming, etc. In the café of the Estancia then dinner, exceptionally chocolate cake and tea.
In pouring rain, we began our journey home to Ushuaia, arrival 21:15
