After breakfast at the Hosteria Tunkelen, we departed further south. Our destination was our apartment at 'Hotel Blau Weiss Rentals' in Rio Grande, which was founded by individuals of German descent.
On the relatively short journey (214 km is nothing in Patagonia!), we learned quite a bit about the indigenous peoples of Tierra del Fuego, the Yamana, the famous Selk'nam, the Haush, and the Kawesqar at the 'Museo de Mision Salasiana'. The Salesians were one of the first orders to establish missions in Tierra del Fuego. Today, Mision Salasiana serves as a school for agriculture. We were also able to make a short stop at 'Estancia Caleta Josefina', now a luxury hotel just before Rio Grande. In the past, Estancia Caleta Josefina was involved in raising sheep for wool and meat production.
Upon arriving at the hotel in Rio Grande, we had to admit that this city is nothing special, here in Tierra del Fuego...
We enjoyed our dinner this evening at the restaurant 'Tante Sara', beef steak with mashed potatoes and salad, and a (okay, it was three) Beagle Golden Ale beer, brewed in Ushuaia, Patagonia, Argentina. As we are staying here until Sunday, we will be visiting some attractions tomorrow...
