Today we had a long journey ahead to Cerro Sombrero in Chile. After 520 km (thankfully only paved roads!), we reached our accommodation, the 'Hosteria Tunkelen', at around 6:30 PM - we are now in Fireland, in Spanish 'Tierra del Fuego' ('Land of Fire')! Our journey took us past the city of 'Puerto Santa Cruz' over the river of the same name, 'Rio Santa Cruz', an area known for the best trout around.... Through the Santa Cruz region, the landscape alternated between
pampas and greener areas. We couldn't miss a detour to 'Laguna Azul', which was definitely worth it!
We crossed the Magellan Strait to Fireland by ferry for the first time, 13,500 km away from home.....
A typical Patagonian dish, homemade beef soup, boiled beef with mashed potatoes and mushroom sauce, along with a Cerveza Austral (brewed in Patagonia, Punta Arenas) at the Hosteria's restaurant to finish off, was delicious. Tomorrow we will see more of Fireland and around noon we will head towards Rio Grande, Argentina. Buenas Noches!
