History of Puerto Williams

Today we first visited the open-air museum 'Bateria Robala', a museum that emerged after the conflict between Chileans and Argentinians in 1978, focused on the eastern islands of the Beagle Channel - it's worth a look, but not absolutely necessary....

More interesting was the yacht harbor of Puerto Williams. We are invited tomorrow for dinner on Mr. Wulff's boat. We met him by chance; Uncle Padre knows him from their time together in Osorno (the world is so small )...

After that, we got to know the area of the Armada de Chile, including the oldest house in Puerto Williams, from the year 1953, the 'Avendia Mia Mar'. Until 1953, only huts stood here...

We couldn't miss a walk in the 'Parque Municipal Ukika'. Here is also the small village of Ukika, where some descendants of the Yaghan still live. The Yaghan still partially rely on fishing for their livelihood.

To conclude the day, we hiked for several hours on the 'Sendero de Chile', a hiking trail that stretches for thousands of kilometers throughout the whole country - once again a wonderful area!

Tonight, Uncle Padre's friend Fernando invited us to dinner. Well, his wife Christina had laid out quite the spread. Appetizer, crab on endive salad, then grilled chicken, beef, grilled sausage, potato salad, rice salad, tomato salad, avocado cream, beef salad, ice cream for dessert, and red wine.... I am so full and everything was so delicious - Buenas Noches!
