Fremantle in the south of Perth offers a great mix of colonial architecture, modern creativity, and a relaxed lifestyle.
The colonial buildings constructed by prisoners, the harbor, the Maritime Museum, and many other historical structures invite to stroll around. Street art - from graffiti to entire murals - can be found in many parts of the city.
Day Trip
From Fremantle, the ferry departs to Rottnest Island, a day trip that is truly worth it. Over 60 beaches, 20 bays, the quokka, water sports of all kinds, hop-on hop-off bus, and cycling on the car-free island are very popular. Caution: the XL-sized bikes typically have a 24-inch frame, so cycling around the island can be a bit strenuous for tall people!

Tips for Fremantle
The Fishing Boat Harbour is wonderfully bustling, and there are several good restaurants where local families and tourists love to enjoy fish for lunch: Kailis Fishmarket and Cicirellos. The Little Creatures Brewery right at the Fishing Boat Harbor or Gage Roads Brewery at the B Shed Ferry Terminal are great choices for the evening and provide a lot of fun.
The Be.Fremantle offers beautiful apartments, some with terraces and views directly over the marina of Challenger Harbour.

Extra tip - unfortunately, we didn't get to try: The Republic of Fremantle Gin School. Each participant receives their own copper still and distills 0.5 liters of gin. It is then bottled to take home.
