On our way from Baume-les-Dames to Montbéliard, we have planned a stop in L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs.
We are now approaching 300 meters above sea level. The highest point of the Canal du Rhône au Rhin is at 341 meters above sea level, hence the surroundings are becoming progressively flatter.
The majority of the upcoming stages will take place in the canal, with the Doubs visible occasionally.
On the route from L'Isle-sur-le-Doubs to Montbéliard, our map indicates a few bridges with a clearance of 3.30 m; nevertheless, we take the risk and keep our windows open. That was the right decision.
Starting from L'écluse de Courcelles, no. 16, we will also be accompanied by the VNF, there is a lift bridge on this stretch and the last lock before the harbor. We will receive further information for continuing our journey towards Mühlhausen; starting from Montbéliard, telephone registration for the route is required one day in advance.
In the harbor of Montbéliard, we find a nice spot in the far corner, and while docking, we receive help from all sides, ultimately, we are docked at the pier.
Bikes out and off to the grocery store. However, my first officer returned almost empty-handed; Leclerc was quite raided, it was Saturday afternoon after all.
