Today we will take the subway to Drottningholm, about 14 km from the Royal Palace. Drottningholm Castle has been the residence of King Carl Gustav and his family since 1982. The large, beautiful park with many trees is freely accessible to everyone. We are lucky to observe many green woodpeckers.

Drottningholm Palace is a Swedish royal palace located on the island of Lovön in the lake Mälaren in the municipality of Ekerö. It was originally a royal pleasure palace and today serves as both a museum and the private residence of the Swedish royal family Bernadotte, currently occupied by King Carl XVI. Gustaf and his wife Silvia, who moved into the south wing in 1982 and have since used the Stockholm Palace only for representation purposes.

The entire Drottningholm royal estate has been protected as a cultural heritage site since 1935 and was the first Swedish cultural monument to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, due to two exceptional buildings, the Chinese Pavilion (Kina slott) and the Court Theatre (Slottsteater). Drottningholm Palace is also referred to as the “Swedish Versailles” due to its significant artistic historical standing.
