Today we are taking a trip to the island of Vaxholm. A trip through the archipelago by boat is always special, sailing through all the beautiful little islets with their small colorful houses.
Vaxholm is the main town of the Swedish municipality of the same name. The town, with 4,849 inhabitants (2015), is located in the province of Stockholm County and the historical province of Uppland. Vaxholm is situated on Vaxön, an island in the Stockholm Archipelago, and is a popular destination for Stockholmers, as most ferry lines in the Stockholm archipelago area converge here, and there are bus connections from Stockholm. In addition to the mostly commercially operated ferries, there is also the free ferry service of the Swedish Transport Authority to the neighboring island of Rindö.
The Stockholm Archipelago (Swedish Stockholms skärgård) is an archipelago in the Baltic Sea, east of Stockholm. It is the largest group of islands in Sweden and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea after the Archipelago Sea, which belongs to Finland.
