Island Round-South Norway June 22, 2026

Today we are heading to our last accommodation, near Oslo Airport, which is quite convenient since we booked an early morning flight. In Ringebu, we will visit the Ringebu Stave Church.

The Ringebu Stave Church is located about 189 km (approximately 3 hours of driving time) southeast of the historic pass road Gamle Strynefjellsvegen. The route goes over the Rv15 through the Ottadal and further into the Gudbrandstdal on the E6.

Built around the year 1220 (with wood partially dated to 1192/93).

It is one of the 28 remaining Norwegian stave churches and is one of the largest of its kind.

Converted to a cruciform church around 1630 and fitted with a red steeple.

Houses medieval carvings (animal ornaments at the west portal) as well as an altar piece from the 1680s. Over the Gamle Strynefjellsveg.

The journey continues through simply beautiful landscapes, over Lillehammer, Hamar, where Kurt tries his luck fishing one last time, but no fish wants to bite. We prepare our rental car for return early in the morning, refueling, removing everything that belongs to us, and we are ready to go.
