Zagreb

Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

I traveled here to meet my dear friend Swantje and spend a collective five-day vacation together. However, Zagreb was only our meeting point to later travel further together. As always, we stayed for two nights, providing us with a full day to explore the city.

And it also presented itself from its best weather side. A bit windy and cool, but mostly sunny.

Unfortunately, the city itself was still a bit in a spring state. Many of the major sights were scaffolded, and there were generally many construction sites. Therefore, we didn’t really have the chance to go inside anywhere.

But we were able to discover some street art.

We still walked around a bit and explored buildings. In the following image, you can see the partially scaffolded cathedral.

Before we set off inland the next day, we visited an abandoned hospital. A so-called lost place.

The hospital was built in the 1980s but was never completed due to the war. As so often, funding was lacking. Since then, it has stood a bit outside of Zagreb, directly adjacent to a park.

It is freely accessible, and you can walk around quite flexibly and explore the different floors. Had it been completed, it would certainly have provided a beautiful view of nature and the mountains.

What I really like is that it is now being used as a creative space. Many different graffiti artists have left their mark here, and last year a graffiti festival also took place in parts of the building.

I think it is now clear that I really like graffiti and street art in general. So, this was definitely a good spot, and we could have spent many more hours there. There was simply so much to see, and we discovered only a minimal fraction in the two hours we spent there.

This abandoned hospital was definitely my Zagreb highlight. A must for all street art and lost places enthusiasts.
