Villa Franca de los Barros, Cáceres and Cádiz - a week of Spanish sunshine Part 2

Villafranca de los Barros is a small town located about two hours north of Seville. I visited a friend here for a few days. I probably would have never just passed by here, so it was delightful in this case to get to know smaller places in Spain.

Once we arrived, we first took a cozy walk around the city and then had dinner on the rooftop terrace while watching the sunset.

I was really lucky with the weather. It had rained a lot in the weeks before I traveled to Spain, and then again after I left. So I am still happy to have experienced so much blue sky, warmth, and sunshine.

The next day we made our way to Cáceres. Cáceres is considered one of the most beautiful medieval towns in all of Spain and is also designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is divided into two parts: the old town, bordered by the historic city wall, and the rest of the city around it.

We spent most of our time in the old town. Unfortunately, we were a bit unfortunate with our timing. On a Monday, as it was the only day we could do something together. Why unfortunate? Almost every tourist attraction in this city is closed on Mondays. Of course, we hadn't planned anything in detail and thus didn't think about it beforehand. So we were there for a few hours, with little plan but a small daily challenge, more on that later.

So we just walked around a lot in the old town and felt like we saw every square and every single little alley.

In between, we naturally treated ourselves to ice cream, for which we also had to wait two hours because Google Maps told us lies about the opening hours. But the wait was worth it. It was a very delicious dark chocolate ice cream.

Some of you might recognize the old town. I've never seen the series, but Cáceres is a filming location for the famous series Game of Thrones and some scenes from the seventh season were shot here.

With its size and the two white towers, you can often see it towering over the old town.

But there were also beautiful buildings outside the old town, like this one with many blue tiles.

And of course, we didn't forget our daily challenge. The theme was green. So finding and photographing as many green things as possible. And when you focus on a color, you suddenly start to notice things you wouldn’t have paid attention to otherwise. I've done this several times now, and it’s always a lot of fun. I love such photography challenges. That was my result in the end and a completely different memory of a 'green day' in Spain:

Back in Sevilla, I wanted to use the remaining days to definitely go to the sea again, as it's not too far from Seville. We set off for Cádiz.

First, we walked into the city, past the cathedral with the goal of eating Spanish tapas at the market!

Unfortunately, the market hall was already closed and in cleaning mode, but the tapas stalls around it were still open, so we could fill our stomachs well.

Well satisfied, we then headed to the beach. Unfortunately, a much too cold wind was blowing to go swimming, but we were still able to enjoy the sun for a few hours, read on the beach, and do some people watching.

Unfortunately, there wasn't enough time to completely watch the sunset in the end, but we still had a great time, and I got to see the sea and listen to the sound of the waves.
Thus, in a week in Spain, alongside Seville and Cádiz, I was able to discover two more (new to me!) places and experienced many wonderful things that I gladly remember. I hope to be able to return to southern Spain someday and discover even more, as it is truly beautiful there.
