Padova → Venedig

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a postcard in Padova, so here is this Ape as a 'card'. Padova was my next stop after Verona, and here too I had the chance to stay with Servas members.

I stayed with a family of four in their beautiful, colorful, self-painted apartment.

Only the father spoke good English. The mother tried to communicate with me about their two sons. Sometimes it worked better, sometimes less well. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time there and felt well taken care of. And there was really good food.

Unfortunately, I can't say much about Padova, as I mainly just slept there to easily take the train to Venice. However, I did explore Padova one morning.

Padova, also known as Padua in other languages, has a lot of sights to offer. Like this old church:

This is the Eremitani Church. A Catholic church famous for its Andrea Mantegna frescoes. These were heavily damaged in World War II in 1944.

When walking through the city center, it is very difficult not to pass the Piazza della Frutta. In the marketplace, you can find many fruit and vegetable stalls, but also other food items or products. The architecture surrounding it comes from several centuries and is truly impressive.

Of course, I also had some time to walk through the streets of the city and discovered a café here and there, and I found the best bakery so far. The saleswoman couldn't speak English, and I couldn't speak Italian, but we made the best of it.

This was a brioche bun filled with a light, airy vanilla cream. Very delicious!

And then it was time for me to say goodbye again. After I had already taken a day trip to Venice, I went to Padova again for a night at a hostel right on the island. More about that will come later with my next postcard.

Until then, all the best, your Almut
