Padova
Unfortunately, I couldn't find a postcard in Padova, so here is this Ape as a 'card'. Padova was my next stop after Verona, and here too I had the chance to stay with...

For my very first trip to Venice, I got up really early. By nine I was on the island and quickly made my way to St. Mark's Square.
Since it was early and clearly still off-season, there weren't too many people around, so the line to go up the Campanile wasn't long, and I was able to take my time and enjoy the view.
When you see the city from above, you can't believe that it actually consists of many small floating islands connected only by bridges. But this also means you have to do a lot of walking since biking or bus riding isn’t an option. Unless you take a water taxi or a gondola.
Of course, I also used these two days in Venice to walk a lot and set my previous record of over 28,000 steps in a day.
When people see the island on the map, many say it resembles the shape of a fish. On the first day, I walked all the way to the back corner, the fish tail. At the end, I found this beautiful park and realized that it’s more of a residential area where tourism doesn’t occur. Everything was pleasantly quiet and peaceful.
After all the walking, you naturally get hungry. And Italian cuisine definitely ranks among my favorite cuisines.
The weather did not disappoint me either. What more could you want than sunshine and blue skies? This allowed me to fully enjoy the golden hour.
But even the one evening in Venice was a lovely experience for me. Since it’s still clearly the off-season, there aren't that many people out and about at night. It does get quite cold at night and during the week, there are definitely fewer people on the island than during the day.
On my next day, I simply walked through the alleys and across many, many bridges without any specific destination and found, beside some famous houses and squares, bakeries, and even the entrance to the emergency room, which is also on the water, because the hospital operates on the water in the form of boats.

To wrap things up, I couldn’t miss an ice cream, as I have experienced so much.

And then, after two days, my trip to Venice was already over. Venice was definitely very high on my travel list and I would say it did not disappoint. I will definitely go there again.
Best Venetian regards, your Almut
