Angola in sight

Published: 18.07.2024

Today was a long, very monotonous and not very varied ride of over 400 km.

There were only cows and sheep on the way, probably because there were settlements on the side of the road. Houses made of tin and cardboard, further north there were more traditional settlements made of wood and grass. People walking long distances on the side of the road to fetch water, children on their way to school - of course there are no pictures of that. There were always traders on the side of the road selling their handicrafts. Cattle herders driving their herds from one side of the road to the other.

Paradoxically, there was a road check because we were driving into another district, we were asked where we got the wooden souvenirs from and whether we had the receipt with us, “we must have it”

You can get these things on every corner, even in normal shops, with an invoice????

What is the relationship between tin houses, no water, people making ends meet with their trade (bad comparison in this context) and then such nitpicking...

I'm excited, we still have a few kilometers to drive and we have to cross the border in Africa three times.

Our lodge is located near Rundu directly on the Cubango River, on the other side is Angola.

The landscape has changed, here you can see many more trees, everything is much greener, the evening peace of the last few days is gone, you can hear crickets for the first time, this afternoon there was a monitor lizard on the river bank, unfortunately I was too slow with the camera (there is no picture)

Tomorrow we'll continue east and a long route of around 440 km is planned.
