Excursion to and Neuenburg am Rhein – for once by car

Yes, now we too have to adjust our program due to the current heatwave (it will be over 35° in the afternoons!). To cool down yesterday afternoon, we visited the forest swimming pool in Breisach. Great facility, large area, plenty of space even for swimming, magnificent tree stock.
Today we get up a bit earlier than usual and at 8:30 AM we meet at the Breisach train station to take the bus to Bickensloh in the Kaiserstuhl. Our plan: On the still somewhat cooler morning, we will approach the Totenkopf from the back and then descend to Ihringen over the Lenzenberg.
The plan works out, the path mainly leads through shady forest. A special feature here are the loess hollow paths, which date back to earlier times and are characterized by a very special vegetation. Soon, the view opens up over the vineyards of the Kaiserstuhl and far out into the landscape.
By noon we reach the Adlerhorstsattel. From there we walk leisurely downhill. Just above Ihringen lies the Lenzenberg winery and guesthouse. From the terrace, we enjoy a glass of dry white wine (of course Lenzberger) and a snack with Munster cheese while taking in the magnificent view over the Rhine plain all the way to the Vosges. Then a small, charming path leads us steeply down to Ihringen. By now it has become noon, and the heat is accordingly strong. We return to the starting point in Breisach by train, where our car is parked.
