Continuing south along the West Coast

Today, I’m going to just go with the flow. A quick stop in Hokitika, one of the few towns on the West Coast right by the sea. The river of the same name carries heaps of driftwood, and along the shore, I walk to the (concrete) ship that was erected here as a memorial to the many sunken ships.

20 km further inland, the Hokitika River passes through a narrow gorge, making the water look deep green. Unfortunately, it's too cloudy to capture the colors properly.

I frequently drive down narrow access roads to the sea, sit on the beach, and simply enjoy the sound of the waves.

In the Okarito Lagoon, which is actually just a detour, I then stay for the night at the small campsite.
