Rain, Rain, Rain
Desk instead of canoe, wood stove instead of bathing suit, that’s not how I planned it. It has been raining non-stop for 24 hours, I am sitting in the barn by the rabbit fire...

The next day, I'm fed up; I clean up the barn and walk back through the bay to the parking lot. Unfortunately, a bit too late—the tide forces me to take a detour. At the car, the sandflies are also happy about the short break in the rain, so off we go. Back over Takaka Hill, a small detour to Split Apple Rock, refueling in Nelson, and then I head south again. I actually want to shorten the 350km journey a bit and take a gravel road over Rainbow Hill to Hanmer Springs, but it’s too risky to drive 50km to the toll booth only to turn back due to lack of 4WD (required). So, I have to take a big detour back again.
