Back to CHC via Wanaka
The morning starts off rainy, and along the cloudy Lake Wakatipu, I pass Queenstown and Arrowtown before the Crown Range Road leads me over the pass toward Wanaka. A final look...

This week good weather has been forecasted for the north (though it may change), so I will set off in the afternoon to drive at least 2 hours north. I’ll reach Gose Bay, a few houses and a campsite on the east coast. A spot right by the coast, tailgate open, listening to the sound of the sea is how I enjoy traveling. In the morning, I'll briefly head to the water again, then continue towards Nelson. Past Waipapa Bay, I will pass a seal colony, a lovely sight of the young animals frolicking in the water. I briefly stop in Nelson to shop, then continue westward. The road winds over the Takaka Hills, initially going past Abel Tasman National Park into Golden Bay to the northernmost part of the South Island.
