About Nelson to Awaroa

A good, cozy breakfast, then we trundle along towards Nelson for shopping and refueling. The timber trucks aren't any faster; here, forests are being felled, and broom is spreading everywhere. We continue in the direction of Takaka, a small pass takes us into the clouds. In Abel Tasman National Park, we can use a holiday house; the goal is a small parking lot by Awaroa. The last 30 kilometers run along the sea, with the final 10 kilometers on gravel roads featuring small fords, then we have arrived in the midst of wilderness. Now it's time for trekking; the bus will stay here. With luggage for 3 days, we cross the almost dry bay thanks to low tide and find the holiday home shown in advance on Google Maps. In the evening, it gets a bit chilly, the fire in the oven warms the barn (also called a creek in this context) and also the shower water (for the outdoor shower the next evening). Electricity comes from solar panels; there's network reception only at the shore 300 meters away, and thanks to gas bottles, cooking is possible – everything is here, even a small chainsaw :-).
