On the second day in the Cameron Highlands, I had planned a slightly shorter hike and wanted to start in the late morning. The sky was already a bit overcast when I set out, but I was still in good spirits. After walking about 1.5 km and not having really left Brinchang yet, it suddenly started to pour. I initially took shelter under a small shop, but it didn’t stop anytime soon. So, I strolled back to the hotel bit by bit and wanted to wait out the rain ... Ultimately, that didn’t work out because it wouldn’t clear up. I then decided to take a day to relax and enjoy reading and chilling out. After the long hike with so many impressions, my conscience was quite at ease. Later in the afternoon, I took a walk in the city itself and checked out local shops and department stores as well as the night market. However, there wasn’t much to see. I only noticed that there was quite a bit of fireworks available for sale. I had heard and seen this everywhere the night before ... and it was supposed to continue ...

The next day (31.03.), the journey continued toward Penang. With two Grab taxis and a longer bus ride, it took almost six hours until I arrived at my destination at the hotel in Georgetown. Penang is an island in northern Malaysia and Georgetown is its capital. The city center of Georgetown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and includes a multitude of different sights from the city’s tumultuous history, where temples, churches, and mosques of various religions can be found peacefully side by side in close quarters. The city is also known for having various street art found on many corners and building facades. It reminds me a lot of Banksy.

After checking into my hotel, I set out to explore the diversity of the city and the many small and large details. At some point, when the humidity became quite significant and I also felt hungry, I settled down in one of the many cozy bars for food and a cool drink ... and shortly thereafter, it started to pour again, so I stayed there a bit longer... After a stop at the hotel, when it had temporarily eased a bit, I marched out in the evening for a small round to enjoy the live music of a local combo around the corners...

Today, after a late and leisurely breakfast at an extremely delicious and quaint café, I continued my sightseeing tour through the city. I was particularly searching for various street art pieces and passed by several other historical buildings and places of worship. I tried to find shady paths as everyone else around me did, since the sun was blazing down again. It wasn’t always successful. After several hours of sightseeing, I passed by the bar from the previous day - not entirely by chance during Happy Hour - and settled down there again... My evening round is being prevented by prolonged storms, so I will probably end the evening comfortably in the pleasantly air-conditioned hotel ... But the final word may not have been spoken yet ;-) ..
