14. Tolfa, the City of Horses
To reach my destination today, (the nearly 500-meter-high Tolfa), I need patience. Doubts sometimes creep in about whether it was a good decision to choose this hiking...

Today's plan features a hike to Marinella. My task for the day is to find a footpath away from the Via Aurelia, the railway tracks, and the highway. I confidently turn to OpenStreetMap, as always, and follow the green line. Unfortunately, after five kilometers, a closed gate, private road. Searching for an alternative, great through the woods. After two kilometers, closed gate again, private road. OpenStreet tells me it's still a nearly two-hour trek to Santa Marinella, so nothing has changed in the last hour regarding that.
I ask locals and find out: there's no way to Marinella, at least not for hikers and other pedestrians. A brief attempt along the Via Aurelia. Not possible, too dangerous. Well, then I have to rely on the bus. This time I should have bought the ticket online. The app? I don't have it. Still, I'm allowed to ride.
