Our last stop in mainland China was Xiamen, a small coastal city with about 6 million inhabitants. On the first evening, we visited an insanely crowded night market. Fortunately, there were some vegetarian dishes and I even found an ice cream made from soy milk.
The afternoon excursion, which we took after returning from the Haka Village, took us to an island just off the coast of Xiamen. The name translates to Thunderwave Island. It is a popular vacation destination for the Chinese and, as such, was quite crowded. But it is understandable because the island still has beautiful colonial buildings alongside temples for variety. It also has a beach, which is the first one I have seen in China, even though we were often on the coast.
All in all, it was definitely an experience and the ascent to the viewpoint was worth it for me. A truly beautiful conclusion to our time in China. Now we move on to Hong Kong.
