Today, our tour takes us along the southern shore of the 35km long fjord 'Berufjördur', with the destination 'Múlafoss', the largest of three major waterfalls in the Fossadalur Valley at the edge of the Teigahorn Nature Reserve.
But first, a quick stop at the gas station in Djupivogur - the two columns stand right next to the small supermarket with Vinbudin, a mailbox, and a small packing station.
A Dacia 4x4 pulls up beside us and a young man asks where he can check or correct his tire pressure - unfortunately, not here, but I remember seeing an air compressor at one of the numerous small businesses and offered to show him the way - after a little detour, I found the hall, the system was active, working, and the small family was relieved :-)
Just a few kilometers further, a beautiful waterfall invited us for another stop and a short hike. On the steep slopes to the right and left of the fall, sea birds had set up their nests and we watched the daring landing maneuvers and saw the hungry waiting mouths with wide-open beaks 'begging' ...
A final look at the fish farms in the fjord and on we go towards Fossadalur Valley.
Here, we ventured up a dusty track steeply, right next to the Sveinsstekksfoss - no, we won't stop here and leave the beautiful waterfall to the many guests and resters - we climb the steep curves up with the little Vitara, cast a glance or two into the fjord, and reach a campground, still empty but open and right by 'Fossar'. We take a look around, as the site appears very well-kept and lies beautifully. A young woman invites us to take a look in the lounge - WOW, what a beautiful large cabin with a modern kitchen area at the ends of the long dining tables and corresponding washing-up areas.
We are directly considering whether to spend a few days here at the beginning of June...
About 1 km further, we park our Sputnik at a ground gate, grab our equipment and walk along the path by the winding shore of Fossar, heading up towards Mulafoss.
Pretty soon, the first, smaller of the three falls appears, the Vindássfoss, right behind it the Sundássfoss. Both invite us to linger, and we capture a few shots of the waterfall, water birds diving and dabbling in the wild water, and bumblebees collecting pollen from the willow flowers.
Continuing up the somewhat steep path, taking a few turns, passing a willow and a hut fitted with wildlife cameras, we near the Múlafoss, before which, at some distance, a reindeer grazes and two pairs of geese approach. We take the last steep ascent and enjoy the cool, moist spray on our faces. As a reward, there are mint and salmiak sweets, before we head back after some photo and video captures.
After about 1.5 hours, our Sputnik comes into view, but I have the feeling that someone has moved it a little further away after every rise :-) The light drizzle picks up a bit, but we can still enjoy our instant coffee with caramel and a handful of nuts in the back of the Vitara.
Filled with wonderful impressions, with full memory cards, we head back home... the pedometer reports reaching new 'milestones' and we relax a bit on the couch and reflect on the day....
