By ferry to Martinique, our little house in the jungle
Today there isn't really much to tell. We were glad yesterday that we could leave St. Lucia without having to pay the fine. We got up at 4:30 AM and arrived at the ferry...

As promised yesterday, here are some more pictures of our cottage and the journey there. It's hard to describe in words and images, really like paradise. And you wonder, hardly any mosquitoes. Today after breakfast, the mosquitoes drove me off the terrace, but now, at 9 PM, I'm back in the middle of the jungle in shorts and a t-shirt, writing this.
The terrace is also totally impressive at night.
Even in a great German botanical garden, you probably wouldn't find something like this very often.
And going up the drive to the cottage, there's always a wheel of the car in the air. Sometimes it's even the driving wheel, then we simply can't go any further. 😊
After that, the path leads through banana plantations and jungle until we reach the main road. Every time, it's a wonder.
The nature here in Martinique is just as impressive as it was before in St. Lucia. Martinique is also quite European in terms of roads and supermarkets, which are almost larger and better stocked than in Germany. Maybe a bit more expensive here and there, but definitely affordable. And the selection here leaves nothing to be desired. You can buy everything here; in St. Lucia, on the other hand, everything was quite poor.
Those seeking adventure and less developed tourism in the Caribbean will find St. Lucia to be the right choice. Those who want to enjoy the Caribbean 'in a safe and European hammock' are better off here in Martinique. Both have their charms, and we liked both very much.
Barbados had dreamy beaches but no nature comparable to Martinique or St. Lucia, though the people were incredibly nice.
At the Cascade Saut du Gendarme, we cooled off a bit. It's incredible how they get there, but there are fish swimming in the pool, and we even discovered a crab.
We passed through Fonds-San-Denis just as a funeral was taking place. There stands a monument for the fallen soldiers 1914-1918 and a beautiful church. All in the middle of the jungle.
Just the drive there was already an adventure.
After that, we found ourselves back on the Caribbean side in Saint-Pierre and had an Algerian panini with merguez.
A cooling down was called for, so we jumped into the waves and did a bit of snorkeling. Then I quickly propped up a palm tree. 😊
Time passes so quickly here; it also takes a relatively long time to get to any sights, especially inland.
Tomorrow we plan an excursion to mangrove swamps. Let's see what awaits us there.
