Entry into the USA in Houston was straightforward despite all the doom-saying, and once we were finally up next, it was quick too. However, the connecting flight to Las Vegas was massively delayed, and the American way of treating customers used to be better. Pig halves are probably treated better, as they at least maintain the cold chain.
In Las Vegas, we were picked up and enjoyed the hospitality of Freddy's dear long-time friend and his family. It was wonderful.
It grounded us to be in a real home after such a long time traveling. We took a few trips together to Red Rock Canyon (or its outskirts, as the park itself was closed due to rain. This gave us quite pleasant temperatures in Las Vegas, while Germany was roasting at over 40 degrees) and to the Valley of Fire State Park. Then we picked up our rental car and as a crowning finale visited the Atomic Museum. Nuclear weapons in the 100 kiloton TNT range as big as a large laptop bag, if that doesn't optimistically suggest that world peace is coming soon?! The nature around Las Vegas was special and fascinated us, but we made a point to avoid the gambling paradise and the associated madness. And then our road trip began to our starting point for Death Valley...
Thank you very much, Lucas, Tui and Jason! We enjoyed spending time with you so much. 3 days were way too short!!
