The boat ride to Koh Yao Yai on a speedboat was quite uneventful, and I slept through most of the journey, as usual.
Upon arriving at Koh Yao Yai, we took a songthaew to the first accommodation. Here I must say, I didn't feel comfortable from the very beginning. I missed the Thai friendliness here, and the accommodation seemed too unwelcoming. (Termites in the floor and animals in the ceiling space. All in all, it was too old and poorly maintained.)
After spending one night here, I asked Egg the next morning if we could look for something else.
And that's exactly what we did, and it was very relaxed since we traveled on a scooter with a sidecar. We ended up at a 4* resort, with direct access to the pool and situated by a beautiful beach. The staff were friendly, smiling, and genuinely happy—exactly what I love about Thailand.
We handled our move with the scooter and sidecar, and it was a magnificent experience.
Unfortunately, my stomach issues plagued me for the last two days (probably too spicy. Egg thinks it could be from the strange stuff I always try - though this time it wasn't particularly strange or colorful, besides, I don't know if it's good that I don't try it.) and I could only enjoy a little good food. Fortunately, after all the vacations, I finally got a bottle of Flying Rabbit - a Thai panacea for gastrointestinal issues. No lie: one or more bottles will probably find their way to Germany. It really helps. The stomach cramps have significantly eased.
Nevertheless, we had a great day on our second day at Koh Yao Yai. A lot of doing nothing at the beautiful beach with crystal-clear water and a makeshift beach bar. And the stairs below were definitely not standardized. We rode a lot on the scooter and simply enjoyed the island.
What I've noticed here repeatedly are the railings of the houses. One must know that many houses are built on stilts. They have a veranda on the first floor in front of the actual living area. And that railing often consists of many thick branches or similar. I also find it fascinating that a really nice new house stands right next to a shabby wooden shack in the middle of the jungle. It’s also super funny that there is just a gas station in the middle of the jungle. It’s indeed an island with still quite few tourist centers.
Since there's not much else to report, just enjoy the pictures.
