Geirangerfjord - oh you beautiful pearl
Morning atmosphere in Ålesund

Who doesn’t know the hurdles in life that we have to take on the way up? We took this quite literally today. A hike was in order. To waterfalls. What could be more beautiful for me? The thing is: Waterfalls usually come from above. So it was clear we needed to go a little higher.
After an extremely relaxed morning and afternoon, we set off. First to Geiranger itself, which today is really cozy and manageable without the cruise ship and the corresponding crowds. Since we are on our own today, we also check out some shops. Many nice things, but we’re not shopping; we have something planned. However, we treat ourselves to a small snack beforehand, and Günter even gets an ice cream afterward. Now, let’s go up.

Even the first few meters are simply beautiful and so idyllic. We walk the marked path and come to the first stairs of the day. We walk along the waterfall that flows directly into the village and climb higher and higher. At the top, we find the Norsk Fjordcenter, which is certainly worth a visit.

But today we are not particularly fast; the sun is shining beautifully but also making us sweat. So onward we go.

And we quickly reach the first stone steps. And so we go the entire 4 km up to the waterfall. Step by step by step. When we still have about 1.5 km ahead of us, the saving hut appears. We take a short break and treat ourselves to an ice-cold Spezi. That definitely helps with moving forward, and with a bit of sugar in our blood, we manage the last steps and elevation meters as well.

And then I can crawl behind the waterfall and am just happy. When can you see something like this? I am so fascinated by these masses of water and the power behind them. The water always finds its way, and here it rushes down in these rough quantities. I could watch for hours.

But we also have to go back down all those steps. After a short break, we set off on our way back. And my goodness, all those steps are tough on the joints. When we finally make it back down, we are both pretty exhausted and don’t want to see any more stairs 😄

Last march back to the campsite, and then we both just collapse into our chairs. We walked 13.6 km today, 8 km of which were actually just steps. We agree: It was worth it!
But now there’s only one way: straight to bed 😴
