Herculaneum - the smaller city at Vesuvius

Then we went back to the Mediterranean coast through the Italian countryside between Bari and Naples, where on the first day we visited Herculaneum at Vesuvius because we still had some time before going to the hotel. Unfortunately, the day was quite rainy, so we were occasionally forced to find shelter from the showers, but that was not a problem in Herculaneum. This smaller ancient city is also located at Vesuvius and is somewhat less known but actually more spectacular than Pompeii. It was not only buried by volcanic ash but also by volcanic mud, which preserved organic materials for nearly 2000 years. As a result, you can still admire ancient door and window frames, lenses, nuts, and much more there. The streets and houses, many ancient wall paintings and wells are wonderfully recognizable today, and you can fully understand ancient life. Very impressive.
