Naukluft National Park

We arrive in the storm and since we don't feel like sleeping in the car, we can only stay in the fancy chalet for a small extra charge - we thought it would be a simple room but it was the nicest room we've had on our trip so far!! The next morning we move to the campsite and our bread is immediately stolen by a baboon - yes, they warned us about these monkeys at the reception but they also said that they wouldn't come if we were present. Wrong thought 😅 While we're calmly preparing everything for brunch, a huge (!!) baboon comes and tries to climb into our car. After Flo shouts at him, the clever ape runs around the car directly to our table with lots of goodies (where I have been until this point and then run away screaming 😅), grabs our (only) bread from the food box and on his way out, also knocks over the bench with all the food. Well, from that point on, we'll be eating potatoes instead of bread on our hikes for the next few days 🙈 very, very exciting for both of us. From this point on, following the advice of the cleaning lady, we're equipped with a big stick 😅

The next morning we start early and hike the 10 km-long Olive Trail: It goes up the mountain and returns through a verrry long gorge, where we discover some quiver trees and do a little climbing in between. At the end of the trail, we hear the screams of monkeys and immediately grab a big stick - the monkey attack has left its marks 😆😅

And since the dear baboon wasn't satisfied with the bread, he comes by again on the last morning and steals a whole bag of sugar directly from our table 🤦🏼‍♀️ even though Flo tries to push him aside with the big stick we wisely prepared. The ape just shakes it and bares his teeth 🙊 let him have the sugar 🙈 Enjoy your meal, dear baboon!
