Hamburg and a weekend too short is like a bag of chips; once you start, you can't stop.

Hammaburg, the original name, was destroyed by the Vikings in the 8th century.

The city flourished in the 13th century with its joining to the Hanseatic League in 1360, which allowed for duty-free trade, until the great fire of 1842 destroyed many buildings.

The port and the Speicherstadt arose due to the incorporation into the customs territory in 1881. Goods could be stored tax-free in the port.

The cholera, World War I and II destroyed Hamburg, and thousands of people lost their lives.

After the flood disaster of 1962, the dikes were raised, and in 2017, the Elbphilharmonie became the landmark of the city.

The Michel, also a landmark, albeit from the 16th century, stands out due to its imposing height of 132m; the elevator costs €8, and climbing it also costs money. You can see it as the last church tower tip in all of Hamburg as you drive out. Therefore, the people of Hamburg spared no expense or effort to rebuild the Michel after a lightning strike in 1762 and after World War II in 1952.

The Reeperbahn, who doesn't know it, is the central street in the amusement district and red-light district. Olivia Jones runs a particularly diverse establishment, Manstrip, just for women, with Olivia's wild boys or Olivia's neighborhood tours and harbor cruises, where some things should not be taken too literally.

Attention attentive readers, purchasing tickets for the Elbphilharmonie can sometimes be quite surprising. Udo Jürgens' concert, of course sung by a double, otherwise it would be quite eerie, was supposed to take place in the Elbphilharmonie, but in small print refers to Laeiszhalle. The Laeiszhalle is NOT located in the Elbphilharmonie; only thanks to very ambitious taxi drivers, who can basically feed their large families daily from this misunderstanding, did we arrive on time for the UDO concert.

The Hamburg Bunker, a flak bunker built by forced laborers in 1942 during the time of National Socialism, provided shelter for up to 25,000 people in St. Pauli from air raids.

Today it is greened and offers a very good view of Hamburg; media companies as well as the nightclub Uebel & Gefährlich have settled here due to the special acoustics.

The Town Hall is one of the most beautiful buildings in Hamburg; completely burnt down in 1842, the new Town Hall arose shortly thereafter like the phoenix from the ashes.

Opposite the Town Hall are the colonnades, a splendid avenue that offers opportunities for a break.

The memorial St. Nikolai was destroyed in 1943 during World War II; every Thursday a morning carillon takes place.
