Tradition meets cosmopolitanism: Bremen and Bremerhaven

Bremen

a venerable Hanseatic city became an important trading center in 1358.
In the 14th century, the citizens erected the stone Bremen Roland as a symbol of market rights and freedom.

Not far away stands the German House right by the marketplace, which commemorates the German division during the Cold War and the people in what was then East Germany.

The Böttcherstraße connects the market directly with the Weser. It has now become a world-famous brick street of about 108 meters built between 1922 and 1932. Small manufactories, a museum, the bell tower house, and restaurants are a tourist magnet.

One must definitely mention the historic Schnoor district. Public bathing houses were popular here as they fostered a sense of community, as illustrated by the scene at the fountain of the cheerful bathers.

The Bremen Cathedral, converted to Gothic style since the 13th century, is the historically religious landmark in the heart of Bremen's old town.
The famous Bremen Town Musicians, who incidentally never arrived in Bremen, tell the tales of the Brothers Grimm. The story of the four exiles shows that if you stick together, you can achieve much more, even if you are old and weak individually.

The Schlachte is a historic river promenade along the Weser that has transformed into a promenade with ship hotels, theaters, and restaurants.

Bremerhaven
