A nightclub of sin at the Musical Dome KÖLN Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge, the theater in the Musical Dome Cologne, tells the story of the Red Mill at the foot of Montmartre in Paris.

Here, the world-famous French Cancan became popular, along with revues, operettas, and chanson performers.

In 1899, the financial background of the dance theater was threatened. A passionate love story unfolded between the songwriter Christian and the cabaret artist Satine.

The Duke of Monroth, a wealthy but not necessarily honorable man, wishes to take over the club financially, while simultaneously desiring Satine as “his sparkling diamond.” Satine plays along to save the Moulin Rouge. She must hide her feelings for Christian.

Ultimately, she dies of tuberculosis in the arms of her lover Christian, on stage in the last act of their passion.

The musical offers a medley of 75 songs featuring works by David Bowie, Christina Aguilera, Bono, and Nicole Kidman.

The costumes are stunning, often a hint of nothing which doubles the effect; the theater backdrop, yes, the whole dome drips with Belle Époque style.

All of this against the backdrop of Cologne Cathedral and the fitting 4711 Made in Cologne, a legendary perfume.
