We spent the previous night right on the access road to the Petralona Cave. No barking dogs, a single vehicle during the night - perfect.
In the morning, we head to the cave right after breakfast. We are still the only visitors. Admission is €4 per person. Karin gets her admission fee back after our guide wanted to see her disability card. He received it as a tip.
After a short wait, we enter the cave, which we have all to ourselves and can enjoy accordingly. What can I say? We have never seen such an impressively beautiful stalactite cave. Stalactites in all shapes and in colors ranging from white to dark brown. Stunning!
Afterwards, we visit the associated museum, where animal bone finds and, above all, the very well-preserved skull of a Homo heidelbergensis, about 300,000 years old, are on display.
After this impressive morning, we drive towards Chalkidiki and find a great spot between Agios Mama Beach and the lagoon. In the lagoon, we see about 100 flamingos.
