So, today's post is coming a bit later than planned – but it's not because I didn't want to! I was just so tired last night that I fell asleep like a rock. But let's start from the beginning.
The alarm rang annoyingly early again because we were supposed to head to the Ba Na Hills at 7:30 AM. However, one crucial travel companion was missing: my unicorn Ursula. I just couldn't wake her up – at least that's how I'll tell you the story. The truth? I simply forgot her while repacking. But hey, “she was tired” sounds so much better, right?
The Ba Na Hills are about 1,500 meters high and were once established as a colonial resort by the French. Today, they can be reached via the longest uninterrupted cable car in the world – and the view from up there is said to be breathtaking. Said?!, mind you. It rained the entire day, and thick fog enveloped everything like an overly enthusiastic Instagram filter.
Still: The famous Golden Bridge with the giant stone hands was impressive. I felt like I had landed in a fantasy movie, even though the view was more “white and foggy.” Beautiful gardens surrounded us, which would surely have looked even better if I could have seen them from the bridge.
After the bridge and the gardens, we took the next gondola even higher – to the Fantasy Park, a huge amusement park with rides that entertain both children and adults. Unfortunately, the entire outdoor area was closed due to the bad weather. But inside, there was plenty to discover: restaurants, shops, and lots of funny attractions.
Our tour guide, who called himself “Mr. Bean,” was a true entertainer. With his style, he made sure we had a lot of laughs, even in the rain and fog. The small travel group was a colorful mix of people, and somehow that saved the day – you can tell that jokes are universally connecting.
Around 6:00 PM, I arrived back at my homestay. And what is Ursula doing? She's still lounging in bed and snoring! Alright, I was also too tired to give her a moral lecture. So we just went for a quick trip to the night market right outside the door.
There, I treated myself to a Bánh Tráng Nướng, a “Vietnamese pizza” made from crispy rice paper, and for dessert, a banana pancake with Nutella. Oh my, was that delicious! With a full belly, I went back to the room, where I fell into the land of dreams within minutes.
Conclusion of the day: Rain? Doesn't matter. Fog? Also doesn't matter. Unicorns lounging? Accepted. Despite the bad weather, it was a fun day – and now I can't wait to experience the Ba Na Hills once again in sunny weather. But tomorrow we move on, so stay tuned!
